Channels

A channel lets people reach your agent where they already talk, such as a Slack workspace or a phone number. Each channel belongs to one agent, and that agent handles the messages with its usual memory and tools.

Add any of these from the agent’s Channels tab:

Channel What people can do Needs first
Slack Send the bot direct messages, or mention it in a channel. Nothing. Setup creates the bot.
Microsoft Teams Message the bot in chats, group chats, and channels. Microsoft 365 admin approval.
Google Chat Send direct messages to a connected account. A Google Workspace connection.
Mobile (SMS + phone) Call or text the agent’s number. Nothing. Setup buys the number.
WhatsApp Message the agent’s number on WhatsApp. A phone number and sender approval.
Email Email a connected mailbox and get a reply in the thread. A Gmail or Outlook connection on the agent.

Most channels need an agent on OpenClaw. Slack also works on terminal runtimes. See the integrations overview.

Alfe follows per-agent identity. An agent joins Slack or Teams as its own bot, with its own credentials, never a shared global bot. That means:

  • Two agents can join the same workspace as separate bots.
  • Channels aren’t shared between agents. Each one sets up its own.
  • Removing one agent’s channel doesn’t affect another agent.
  1. Open the agent in the dashboard and select its Channels tab.
  2. Select Add new channel.
  3. Pick a channel and follow its setup.

You can only add a channel on an agent. Your organization, team, and project views list existing channels for reference.

You need permission to manage connections on the agent. An agent can’t add a channel on its own, though it can generate a link for you to authorize some providers. See OAuth connect flows.

Each channel shows a status:

Status Meaning
Pending Setup is still finishing. WhatsApp stays here during sender review.
Active The channel is working.
Error Something’s wrong, and the row shows the reason. An Email channel also offers Reconnect.
Deactivating… You removed the channel, and Alfe is cleaning up on the platform.

To remove a channel, select Disconnect. Alfe then cleans up on the platform in the background.
