Chat with your agent

Chat is the fastest way to work with an agent. Ask it to do something, watch it work, and keep going. Replies stream back as the agent produces them, and you can see the tools it runs along the way.

Every Alfe app connects to the same agent and the same conversations:

  • Web. Open app.alfe.ai, pick an agent, and select its Chat tab. There’s nothing to install.
  • Desktop app. Chat alongside the rest of the agent’s tools, with native notifications. Select Open in new window to keep a conversation visible while you work elsewhere. The web app has this too.
  • Mobile app. Reach your agent on the go, with push notifications for new replies.

An agent can also meet people on other platforms, such as Slack or WhatsApp. See Channels.

Attach files with the paperclip button, or paste them from your clipboard:

  • Limits — up to 10 files per message, at 25 MB each.
  • Files from the agent — agents can attach files to their replies, with the same limits. Images show inline, and other files download.

Not every runtime can send files back. When an agent can’t, it tells you where the file is in its workspace instead.

Two voice features sit in the chat window:

  • Dictate a message. Select the microphone in the message box, and your speech becomes text you can edit before sending.
  • Start a voice call. Select the phone button on a conversation to talk to the agent out loud. Your spoken turns land in the same conversation.

Both draw on your credit pool. See Voice overview and How voice is billed.

You don’t need to wait for a reply before sending your next message:

  • Queue messages. Anything you send during a turn waits in a Next up list. You can reorder a queued message, cancel it, or send it now.
  • Stop a reply. Select Stop to end the current turn.

Agents are long-lived, so your work with them is too:

  • History stays with the agent. Past messages stay available, and closing a window doesn’t lose them.
  • Memory spans conversations. With memory installed, an agent can recall facts and earlier work in a brand-new conversation.
