Group conversations

A group conversation puts you, your teammates, and an agent in one shared thread. Everyone sees the same messages and replies, on web, desktop, and mobile.

Each person you invite must already have read and chat access to that agent. An invitation doesn’t grant access, so an admin needs to add them first. See who can be invited.

  1. Open the agent’s chat.
  2. In the conversation list, select New group. The New Group Conversation dialog opens.
  3. Give the group a name, such as “Product launch”, and pick the members.
  4. Create the group.

It then appears in each member’s conversation list, marked as a group.

Open Members on the conversation to see who’s in it and to add people. The rules are:

  • Rename — any member can change the group’s title. Everyone sees the new title.
  • Add people — they must have access to the agent, as above.
  • Remove people — the group’s owner can remove others.
  • Leave — any member except the owner can leave.

Pins stay personal, so pinning a group doesn’t change anyone else’s list.

Alfe checks access when you invite someone, not only when they sign in. That has two effects:

  • Invitations can be refused. If someone doesn’t have access to the agent, the invitation fails, and an admin needs to grant it first.
  • Access can end. If someone later loses access to the agent, the conversation disappears for them and they can’t open its attachments. Download links already issued expire on their normal schedule.

Teams and projects can have their own conversation, which Alfe manages for you:

  • Membership follows your organization. Alfe adds and removes people as their team or project roles change, so you can’t remove them by hand.
  • Archived projects become read-only. Reactivating the project reopens the conversation.

These conversations can’t be renamed or left.
